叉车与其它车子有所不同，它分类多，应用广，尤其是电动叉车既环保又无污染、低噪音。叉车的结构特征和工作性能是又叉车的技术要求体现出来的，叉车的技术要求由额定重量、载荷中心距、大起升高度、门架等等组成。
1、额定起重量：允许叉车承载的货物重量，一般以吨位体现出来。当货叉上的货物重心超出了规定的载荷中心距时，由于叉车纵向稳定性的限制，起重量应相应减小。
2、载荷中心距：货叉承载额定重量的货物时，其重心叉垂直段前壁的水平距离T，以mm(毫米)表示。
3、大起升高度：货叉装再满载货物时大起升的高度。
4、门架倾角：叉车空载时在平坦坚实的地面上，门架相对其垂直位置向前或向后的大倾角。前倾角的作用是为了便于叉取和卸放货物；后倾角的作用是当叉车带货运行时，预防货物从货叉上滑落。
5、大起升速度：叉叉车满载时，货物起升的大速度，以m/min (米/分) 表示。起升速度过快，容易发生货损和机损事故。目前国内叉车的大起升速度已提高到20m/min。
6、行驶速度；提高行驶速度对提高叉车的作业效率有很大影响。对与起重量为1t的内燃叉车，其满载时高行驶速度不少于17m/min。
7、小转弯半径：叉车在无载低速行驶、打满方向盘转弯时，车体外侧和内侧至转弯中心的小距离，分别称为小外侧转弯半径Rmin外和小内侧转弯半径rmin内。小外侧转弯半径愈小，则叉车转弯时需要的地面面积愈小，机动性愈好。
8、小离地间隙：货叉与地面之间的间距。
9、小通道宽度：叉车装卸货物的小通道宽，不同叉车对于通道的宽度是不一样的例如手动叉车和电动叉车，电动叉车相对于手动点叉车的通道要宽点。
